The first chill of autumn had already nipped the leaves of the apple tree when Tünde arrived.
She didn't greet anyone – she sat directly on the stone where Hexa usually sits. Then she got frightened and stood up.
— Stay – said Hexa from behind the tree. – Sometimes what's needed is to sit in someone else's place. To see how the world looks from there.
Tünde sat back down. She looked around. From the garden, the path she had come along was visible. It looked strangely straight.
— I'm at a crossroads – she said finally. She said nothing more. As if this explained everything.
— I know – said Hexa, placing her paw on the flat stone.
Six lines appeared slowly, like frost drawing patterns on glass. Hexa looked at them quietly for a moment – then pointed with her paw to two of the lines. They glowed golden compared to the rest.
— Two lines are changing for you – she said quietly. – This is not given to everyone in a single reading. It means: the situation is in motion. You are in motion too – you just can't yet see which way.
Tünde looked at the lines. Something in the golden marks caught her gaze.
— Is that good or bad?
— Neither. – Hexa sat down across from Tünde. – The 26th hexagram – Great Taming. The power of Heaven beneath the Mountain. Enormous energy is gathering, but the mountain isn't yet releasing it. Accumulated force. Restraint.
— Then what should I do?
— Hold back and prepare – said Hexa simply.
Tünde snorted.
— That's not helpful. Everyone tells me to wait.
— I didn't say waiting. – Hexa pointed to the two golden lines. – Look. This is the first changing line – down here, in the second position. A strong, solid line is breaking. This shows: somewhere you're forcing something that won't work that way. Too much force, in the wrong direction. She paused for a moment. – If I ask you what you're forcing in this situation, or where you want something very much, what comes to mind?
Tünde didn't answer immediately. But the silence itself was the answer.
— The other changing line – up there, in the fifth position. There a soft line becomes strong. – Hexa's voice shifted slightly. – This is the place of acceptance. It doesn't ask: should I control or not? It asks: are you listening, are you hearing what is around you? The subtle signals. The feedback from your environment. Things we sometimes don't hear, because the voice of our own will is louder.
— In other words, this is the path of acceptance. Not surrender – acceptance. There's a difference.
— What is it?
— Surrender says: there is no other way. Acceptance says: this is the way – for now. And meanwhile you observe, you listen, you receive. – Hexa drew an imaginary line between the two golden marks. – These two changing lines together suggest: alongside your enormous inner potential, flexibility is needed right now. Considered acceptance. Not forcing.
Tünde looked at the lines for a long time. The gold slowly faded, but the marks remained on the stone.
— What exactly am I forcing? – she asked finally, quietly.
— Only you can answer that. – Hexa stepped closer. – But I have a question that might bring you closer: how could your current decision improve the quality of your inner peace and your relationships with those around you – strengthening trust and mutual understanding?
Tünde stood up. She didn't say goodbye right away – she just stood for a while beside the apple tree, looking at something that wasn't there.
Then she set off down the path.
Hexa watched her go. She opened her journal – a flat stone covered in scratches – and next to the 26th, she drew a small mark, beside it two tiny golden dots. The sign of the changing lines.
Everyone brings different lines with them – she thought. The autumn will be long.
Do you recognize yourself in any part of Tünde's story? What is current for you right now – a crossroads, or something else?
